iPhone 13 with mmWave 5G to launch in more countries - Kuo - Android

This is expected to boost the shipments of mmWave 5G-supported devices.

Apple launched iPhone 12 series as the first one with 5G connectivity support last year but with a little limitation. It released the faster 5G network i.e. mmWave-enabled models only in the United States. The rest of the world received units that supported 5G only through the Sub-6GHz network. This is now rumored to change with the next-gen offering as claimed by Ming-Chi Kuo, a renowned market research analyst.

Kuo says that iPhone 13 with mmWave 5G band support will launch in more countries. He believes that the move will also result in increased shipments of 5G smartphones with the faster band. In the current situation, the majority of the 5G phones are known to feature only the Sub-6GHz network antenna. The exact number of countries that will get these units is unknown but the likes of Canada, Japan, and Australia along with major European markets are expected to be a part of the rollout.

Apple currently ships about 30-35% iPhone 12 units in the United States with mmWave support. The count is expected to grow significantly i.e. as much as 55-60% with the iPhone 13 launch. It should be noted that all units with mmWave band support have a slightly different design. They have a visible antenna design on the side frame and just below the side button. The visual appearance is expected to stay the same with the next-gen release as well.
