HMD Global is supposedly building up its own customized UI based on Android. This looks apparent from a vacancy titled "User Experience Designer" posted on LinkedIn. The description, however, doesn’t offer any sound judgment to whatever we are interpreting. While it does list the job responsibilities, the overall description is pretty vague, so concluding it to be the development of a completely new UI seems a bit impractical. There might be more possibilities to look at.
Key responsibilities for the role include designing graphic user interface elements like menus, tabs, and widgets, developing UI mockups and prototypes, creating original graphic designs, and so on.
The job description doesn’t exactly mention the work of the UI/UX designer. It is possible that the company is just hiring the designers for its own apps for better optimization. Nokia phones don’t have a long list of first-party apps. It is possible that the new designers will be responsible for designing more apps that the company has already planned.
