There is no doubt that the iPhone has one of the best camera setups in the market. Apple has been following its latest camera tech for the last couple of years but moving forward, it is reportedly planning some major changes. Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known research analyst, has published its newest research notes detailing what these changes are.
Kuo predicts that Apple will introduce a "unibody" rear camera design with the launch of 2022 iPhone models. The design will result in the integration of the camera's voice coil motor with the lens array. Both of these things are traditionally placed separately from each other which results in more space consumption. The integration wil help the team save internal space that can be used for other internal components.
The research note further adds that Apple has plans to upgrade more of its iPhone camera module from a 6P array to a 7P lens. It will be done for the wide-angle camera sensor. The current 6P lens setup offers an f/1.8 aperture but with a 7P lens, it will be f/1.6 aperture. This will allow the camera set up to capture more light and thus result in better low-light shots.
