Twitter Spaces is now officially available for everyone around the world but with a requirement of at least 600 followers. It can be used by both Android and iOS users by tapping the compose tweet option. The announcement was made through a blog post where Twitter also talked about some of the features lined up for the future.
Spaces is an audio-chat feature similar to Clubhouse and a few other social media apps. It lets users create a "space" where they can interact with other members on the platform through voice. Each space can have numerous members but only up to 10 users can be allowed to become speakers. This is done to avoid chaotic situations and to ensure that spaces can be used for holding meaningful conversations. It is the room creator who will have the authority to assign speaker roles and to allow who can and cannot join the room even as a listener.
Twitter says it still has the goal of making Spaces available for everyone but is moving ahead gradually. It decided to set the current limit at 600 followers after listening to the feedback from early testers as well as through its own experiences. As for users who might be interested in joining others' Spaces, the app will show a Purple-colored circle around the profile picture of the accounts that have Space ongoing. It will also show these profiles at the top of the home feed similar to how it shows Fleets.
