While Apple is reported to continue with LiDAR sensor for its upcoming products, Samsung is reportedly dropping this idea, at least, for its upcoming Galaxy S-series.
According to a new report from Korean publication ET News, the 3D Time of Flight (ToF) sensor is not making a comeback on Samsung’s Galaxy S22 phones. Samsung featured the ToF sensor on the Galaxy S10 5G, S20 Ultra phones, but swapped it with a simple Laser AF for the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. It decided not to bring 3D ToF sensor on the Galaxy Note 20 as the “technology’s level of its use did not meet the company’s expectation.” Later, it did the same with the Galaxy S21 and didn’t bring back the 3D ToF sensor.
Now, the report from ET News states that Samsung will once again skip the 3D ToF sensor, this time for the upcoming Galaxy S22 series. The report claims Samsung did look into the possibility of bringing it back with the upcoming series but recently decided to skip on it completely.
