Qualcomm's current-generation flagship processor for smartphones is Snapdragon 888. It is a 5G capable chipset that debuted late last year and has made an appearance in a number of smartphones so far. It is the most preferred choice for OEMs working on a premium Android smartphone with flagship performance but a new report has suggested the gap between the demand and supply has started to increase.
As per Reuters, Qualcomm is finding it hard to keep up with the Snapdragon 888 demand of different OEMs. The main reason behind this situation is the semiconductors shortage that has already affected the automotive industry. The situation is affecting both high-end and mid-range processors manufactured by the company.
It should be noted that there have not been any official words on the situation. It is hard to say if and when the official acknowledgment will happen but if we go by the report, it is safe to assume that smartphone shipments are likely to take a hit if things do not change. We could expect to see a shortage of supply of different smartphones which would be powered by those particular chipsets.
