The newly redesigned Siri remote that Apple launched alongside the new Apple TV at its Spring Loaded event does not have a built-in U1 chip. The product description of the remote does not list the U1 chip, which indicates the absence of the processor completely. Moreover, the company, later on, confirmed this to The Verge as well, so it is pretty apparent now.
The Apple-designed U1 chip uses Ultra-Wideband technology for spatial awareness, which means it allows other devices with U1 chip to communicate with each other to understand their precise location. This indicates that you may not able to find this tiny and sleek remote in case it gets misplaced.
According to TheVerge, the new iPad Pro models don’t include a U1 chip as well. But its absence from the Siri remote is a concern because the chances of it getting a dive into your couch are more. This is one device that is frequently lost around the house. It is pretty sad that Apple didn’t even care to make the device enough skillful so that it could communicate itself with other devices in case it gets lost.
