Microsoft has officially taken wraps off the Surface Laptop 4, its newest laptop in the market. It is an upgrade over the Surface Pro 3 launched in 2019 and brings noticeable under the hood improvements. There is no difference in terms of visual appearance though. The biggest change is that the company now offers a choice between Intel and AMD processors for both display size variants.
The Surface Laptop 4 is available in 13.5-inch and 15-inch display size options. The buyers will get to choose between up to 11th-gen Intel Core processors and AMD Ryzen 4000 series chipsets. It should be noted that Microsoft is not using the latest available AMD chipset which is probably the reason that these models cost relatively cheaper than Intel options. Additionally, it is referring to these models as "Microsoft Surface Edition" as these Ryzen chips are said to have been optimized for delivering better performance.
The newest variants are claimed to deliver 70% better performance as compared to the Surface Laptop 3. All Intel CPU models will come with the new Xe graphics and Ryzen variants with AMD graphics. The battery life is claimed to be up to 17 hours and 16.5 hours on Intel-powered 13.5-inch and 15-inch models. The laptop models with AMD processors will last a little longer i.e. up to 19 hours and up to 17.5 hours on the 13.5-inch and 15-inch models respectively.
