Google killing Play Movies and TV app for smart TVs - Android

It will stop working from June 15th.

Google has decided to bid farewell to yet another application from its stable. The ax has fallen on the Google Play Movies & TV application for smart TVs this time. The decision affects the app's availability on select smart TV models that we will talk about in detail in a little bit. The move has been announced with the goal of shifting uses to the YouTube application.

As per the announcement, Google Movies & TV app will stop working on Roku, Samsung, Vizio, and LG smart TVs from June 15th, 2021. There is still a gap of about two months which will allow them to prepare for the change. Google says all their purchases and libraries will continue to live on YouTube. The users will also be able to browse, rent, and buy new content from YouTube.

A user will only need to log into the YouTube app using the same Google account that they used with the Play Movies & TV app. It will automatically bring all content linked with that account. If you have Google Play credits lying around that you have not used yet, you will be able to use them for making purchases on YouTube.
