Google Fit heart rate and respiratory rate monitoring is here - Android

These features are currently exclusive to Pixel phones.

Google has pushed a new Google Fit application update that adds two new health features. These include the ability to measure the user's heart rate and respiratory rate. Both of these Google Fit features are currently exclusive to Pixel users but the team has plans to expand them to other smartphones in the future.

The best thing about Google Fit's heart rate and respiratory rate monitoring is that it does not require users to use or wear any other hardware. It simply makes use of the phone's rear and front cameras for taking measurements. The process for using the phone to get measurements is also pretty simple and easy to follow.

To measure heart rate, a user only needs to place his/her finger on the back camera and apply some pressure. It will look for tiny color changes on your finger and will show you the measured heart rate. As for measuring one's respiratory rate, you will have to ensure that your torso is visible clearly in the device's front camera for at least 30 seconds. The app will analyze your breathing pattern to determine your rate of respiration.
