Facebook's audio chatroom feature surfaces in a new leak - Android

Facebook will let users create broadcast and private audio chat rooms.

Audio chatrooms are the newest phenomenon that every internet communication company wants to incorporate. They became popular due to the success of Clubhouse, an invite-only app on iOS. Telegram has already implemented the functionality and Facebook is reported to be working on the development.

Now thanks to the tipster Alessandro Paluzzi aka alex193a, we have our first look at Facebook's alleged take on releasing a Clubhouse competitor. This new feature is basically an extension of the existing Messenger Rooms functionality that it debuted last year. It allows users to create rooms and have a video chat with up to 50 people at the same time. The team is now removing the video aspect from it to give it audio-only chatroom vibes.

The leak shows that the Rooms feature now shows three options: Live Audio, Audio, and Video. The first one is a broadcasted chatroom where anyone from Facebook can join as a listener. This is similar to how it works on Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces. The next mode i.e. "Audio" will let users create a private audio chat room where only Facebook friends will be able to join. The last one is nothing but the currently available Messenger Rooms feature.
