Xiaomi has launched the Mi Box S as the latest Android TV device for the United States market. It is a successor to the original Mi Box which was released in the country about two years ago. While it does bring a few improvements over the previous offering, the best part is that the newer version is a full $10 cheaper.
The Mi Box S allows any user to take advantage of Google's Android TV platform on any smart or non-smart TV. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and is compatible with all the major apps and games compatible with the platform. If you have a 4K HDR TV, you can use the device to stream content in 4K HDR quality at 60fps. There is also support for Chromecast so that you cast content from your mobile device to the TV wirelessly.
Under the hood, it has a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor with Mali-540 GPU. There is 2GB of DDR3 RAM and 8GB of internal storage for installing apps and games. It offers WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity options along with a USB 2.0 port, an HDMI port, a power interface port, and audio output port. It comes with a slightly redesigned remote control where the power button is now in the center followed by a dedicated Google Assistant button. It further has dedicated buttons for switching to Netflix or Live TV on the fly.
