Samsung is expected to use the ultrasonic fingerprint scanners in its phones next year and going by a new report from DigiTimes, Qualcomm has already won the orders for the same sensors. Adding to this is a report from 91Mobiles that claim Qualcomm’s ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner will be exclusive to Samsung for the first half of 2019.
This new fingerprint scanner tech will reportedly be embedded on the mid-range and high-end phones of Samsung and Galaxy S10 could debut it. Going by the reports, the Galaxy S10 may get unveiled at Mobile World Congress so this could mean the first ever use of Qualcomm’s in-display fingerprint sensor will be seen on the mobile’s world biggest event.
Qualcomm’s hardware is expected to cover as much as 30 percent of the display which will drastically increase the space for the finger to be placed for authentication. If Samsung becomes the exclusive user of this tech in the first half of 2019 then we would only see other flagships adorning this tech in the second half of the next year.
