Earlier today, Oppo launched its online-only sub-brand Realme in India, along with the first smartphone, Realme 1 which will be sold exclusively via Amazon India. Oppo has gone all aggressive with the Realme 1 smartphone pricing, and it promises to offer powerful specifications along with good software experience. The smartphone will compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Honor 10 Lite. We compared all three smartphones based on their price, specifications and features, and here’s how they complete.
Realme 1 is offered in three storage variants – the base storage variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage priced at Rs 8,990, whereas the mid variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage priced at Rs 10,990. The top-end variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at Rs 13,990. The smartphone will go on sale starting May 25 at 12:00PM on Amazon India.
The Redmi Note 5 from Xiaomi is offered in two storage variants – 3GB of RAM with 32GB storage priced at Rs 9,999, and 4GB of RAM with 64GB storage, priced at Rs 11,999. It is available to purchase exclusively via Flipkart and mi.com/in and Mi Home stores.
The Honor 9 Lite, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 10,999 for the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant, whereas the 4GB RAM with 64GB storage variant is priced at Rs 14,999. It is available to purchase exclusively via Flipkart.
The Realme 1 comes with a 6-inch full HD+ IPS LCD display that runs at a resolution of 2160x1080pixels, with pixel density of 403ppi, and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Honor 9 Lite flaunts a 5.65-inch full HD+ display with a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio, whereas the Redmi Note 5 features a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display (2160×1080 pixels), and an aspect ratio of 18:9.
Under the hood, the Realme 1 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core SoC, paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and 6GB RAM with 128GB storage.
The Redmi Note 5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, paired with Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB / 4GB of RAM, and 32GB / 64GB storage. The Honor 9 Lite, on the other hand, is powered by Huawei’s Kirin 659 octa-core SoC paired with 3GB / 4GB RAM and 32GB / 64GB onboard storage. All smartphones feature a microSD card slot for further expansion. But while Honor 9 Lite and Redmi Note 5 feature a hybrid slot, the Realme 1 comes with a dedicated slot.
In the photography department, Realme 1 comes with AI-powered 13-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front camera. The AI is capable of scene detection and can also add depth effects to your portrait shots, without needing dual cameras with a dedicated depth sensor.
Xiaomi has equipped the Redmi Note 5 with a 12-megapixel main camera with a dual-tone LED flash, and a 5-megapixel front camera with LED flash, for selfies and video calling. The Honor 9 Lite, on the other hand, features a quad-camera setup. You get a 13-megapixel primary camera for clicking photos and recording videos, supplemented by a 2-megapixel secondary sensor that lets you add DSLR-like bokeh effects to your photos. The setup is the same – both on the front and at the back.
Connectivity options on all three smartphones include dual SIM card slots, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11 and GPS. To keep things ticking, Oppo Realme 1 comes with a 3,410mAh battery, the Redmi Note 5 comes with a 4,000mAh battery, whereas the Honor 9 Lite comes with a 3,000mAh battery. In the software department, Honor 9 Lite and Realme 1 run on Android Oreo, whereas the Redmi Note 5 runs Android Nougat OS, and Oreo update is due to rollout.
