OnePlus India just launched its limited edition OnePlus 6 Marvel Avengers Edition flagship smartphone in India. This launch follows the launch of three regular color variants of the OnePlus 6. The company announced that this device will be priced at Rs 44999 and will be available starting May 29. Here’s our initial impressions of the Marvel Avengers Edition.
We have already covered everything that is visually different with the OnePlus 6 from the display notch to the glass back. We will check out what OnePlus has cooked for all Marvel fans out there who would want to shell out their hard earned money on this device. For those wondering, we did check the box and there were not infinity gems lying or even the gauntlet. Instead, the company did ship out something for the fanboys. More on that later. To begin with, let’s look at the differences with the OnePlus 6.
To begin with, the OnePlus 6 Marvel Avengers Infinity War Edition device looks very different from the regular retail box of the smartphone. The top of the box comes with an embossed Avengers logo with Kevlar-finish with a small red OnePlus logo on the top and a “Marvel” written below the Avengers logo along with a copyright symbol. The three sides of the box with ‘OnePlus 6’ written on the left-hand side to inform users of the version of the device, OnePlus and Avengers Infinity War logo on the bottom-side and “Infinite Power. In your hands.” written on the right-hand side.
You get the Avengers Infinity War edition flagship smartphone, the Dash charger adapter and trademark Red charging wire inside the box along with a small box with the instruction manual, a sweet sticker, a card with the Avengers logo printed on one side and ‘Infinity’ poem on one end. I will not spoil it because this is a spoiler-free first impression.
The box also comes with a good hefty looking case with Iron Man carved out on the back of the case to protect the device and does it look good. The box also packs a shiny Golden badge which can be used in a bragging rights competition.
After all that let’s talk about the actual device on how it looks and I think one word would be enough to describe the smartphone, classy. The device does come with a glass finish on the back but it also comes with a Kevlar finish behind the glass giving it a premium look. The device looks stunning when light makes the Kevlar underneath the curve glass shine. OnePlus has added a silver color company logo and an Avengers logo on the back of the device.
Similar to the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition, this limited edition also comes with a colored alert slider with the color changing from Red to Golden here. There are not many changes when it comes to the exterior of the device.
The glass back is slippery and runs a risk of breaking despite the company claiming that it matches its older devices in terms of resilience to drops. The back does act as a fingerprint magnet but it feels good in the hand with the looks stealing the show.
OnePlus has made some subtle changes to the software of this limited edition smartphone with changing to the dark theme with Golden accent color to match the darkness of the space and Gold of the gauntlet. It also comes with five custom Avengers Infinity War wallpapers. In my opinion, I only found two of the five wallpapers to be really “worthy” of the device with this level of design quality.
The company has opted for Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage on the Avengers Infinity War Edition. The device is powered by Android 8.1 Oreo-based OxygenOS 5.1.1. The remaining specifications of the device remain unchanged when compared to the regular version that the company launched in the Indian market.
OnePlus has crafted a stellar looking device to celebrate Avengers Infinity War that would attract both the Marvel fans, people who would go by DC and even the ones who don’t know or care about the first two. As mentioned in our OnePlus 6 First Impressions, OnePlus has been successful in creating something unique that is somewhat different from most of the crowd in terms of the design (if we exclude the notch on the display).
The internals and the performance are smooth without any issues, something to expect from such a device and the software is functional with extremely useful tweaks to improve the experience. The core philosophy that is driving the hardware and software of the device has remained unchanged while the design aspect has undergone a 2018 upgrade with the glass back and notch. If you like the device along with the glass back and the notch is completely subjective.
This is by no means a full review but in the brief time with the device, it is almost certain that this is as precious and rare as one of the Infinity Gems in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And similar to the OnePlus 6, the Limited Edition Avengers Edition is a stunning and a force to reckon with like the Bleeding Edge Armor that Iron Man wore in Infinity War.
