Allo joins the long list of services that Google has retired over a period of time. Allo has not been receiving a lot of attention off-late since Google shifted its focus to RCS which will succeed the default messaging service on Android very soon. Verizon is set to launch RCS today for the latest Pixel devices.
Since, there are far too many applications like WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook Messenger, and WeChat etc. already offering the same service like Allo, it made little sense to invest more time in it. The app as well despite promising never gained traction so much so that the lead developer as well left Google and moved to Facebook.
Google itself has multiple communication apps like Messages, Duo, Hangouts chat and Meet. The last two are focused towards are primarily focused on team collaboration for G Suite customers and at some point will be made available for existing Hangouts users, too.
