Google Messages is reportedly working on a feature that will automatically delete the OTP receipts after 24 hours. Folks over at XDA Developers did a teardown of the Google Messages v6.7.067 and found out strings referring to the auto-deletion of One Time Passwords from the messaging threads.
We know OTPs are temporary in nature. Some OTPs from apps and services live for a day, some for hours, and some for only a few minutes. They do not have any real usage left once they are used for authentication. So, it does not make sense to keep them and clutter your Google Messages app. You could be among those who delete OTPs as soon as they are used for the purpose they have come for or you may be like me who keep the OTPs in the messages thread for no reason, because, we just forget to delete them. So, if you fall into the latter category, this feature could be coming like a boon for you.
Some OEMs like OnePlus have made a separate category for OTPs in the Inbox. One can delete all the OTPs from this thread in one go and thus declutter their inbox for a better organization.
