During the I/O 2018, Google introduced Duplex, a technology that could communicate with humans like a regular human being. The response to this technology was divisive, while some hailed it as one of the best examples of AI so far and the rest were worried about it sounding too human and would give Google more access to our personal details.
In a real-world scenario, Duplex will let you communicate with businesses to complete basic calls like a restaurant reservation, call your salon to book an appointment etc. However, it is being said that Google has been working to make Duplex more friendly and setting policies for both the users and business. These policies will ensure that you know if you’re talking to a bot, every time.
Now Duplex is making its way to users via Google Assistant and Google has announced that Pixel devices will start getting Duplex this November. This would be a phased roll out in the United States for users based in New York, Atlanta, Phoenix, and San Francisco Bay Area. Initially, it will only help users to a restaurant reservations that too for restaurants which do not accept online reservations.
