The Blackberry Priv was the first device by the company to come with the Android operating system, which was a departure from Blackberry's own BB10 operating system. The last of the BBOS and BB10 devices came out in 2015, and that's when the Priv was also launched. Blackberry has announced that they will no longer be rolling updates for the Priv, but BBOS and BB10 are still supported for two more years.
The company issued the following press release to announce the update support program.
A little more than a year ago BlackBerry Executive Chairman and CEO, John Chen, declared that BlackBerry's transition to a software company was complete. And still, in an era where consumers have been "trained" to upgrade their phones every 18-24 months, it is a testament to the durability of our designs and brand loyalty that there are still millions of people actively using BB10 and BBOS devices, many of which are already more than ten years old.
