Asus is joining the growing list of smartphone makers releasing the Android 8.0 Oreo update for their smartphones. The company released the Oreo update for ZenFone 4 in December last year and for the ZenFone 3 in January. Now it is turn of ZenFone 4 Pro to get the taste of latest flavor of Android.
According to a new post on ZenTalk forum, the Oreo update is available with version number V15.0410.1802.34 and was released yesterday. The update may not be available to everyone right away but should reach more users in the next few days. The release of Oreo for ZenFone 4 Pro shows that the Taiwanese company is making good progress as far as updating ZenFone 4 and ZenFone 3 series to Oreo is concerned.
The changelog reveals that version V15.0410.1802.34 bring Android O update. It also brings improvement to power consumption and adds long screenshot function. One of the noticeable change is the Cast function which acts as substitute for the PlayTo function.
Once users upgrade to this new version, they will see important changes to the launcher with options like swiping up to access the app drawer and the app icon will look a bit different. The idea here is to meet cleaner and friendlier UI design including in settings menu.
Asus has also confirmed that all ZenFone 3 and ZenFone 4 variants will be updated to Android Oreo by the second half of 2018. We will to see whether Asus keeps its promise but it does seem to be on track.
Google released Android 8.0 Oreo update for Pixel and Nexus smartphones in August last year. Since the release of Android 8.0, Google has also released an incremental update in the form of Android 8.1 Oreo. The latest version of Android is powering just 1 percent of active devices while Android Nougat and Marshmallow remain the most widely used version of Android.
Samsung has also started pushing Oreo update for its flagship Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones. With more brands releasing Oreo update, the market share should see a jump in its user base but it is not likely to get rid of fragmentation anytime soon.
