Apple sold 600K HomePods in Q1, 2018 - Report - Android

Apple sold 600K HomePods in Q1, 2018 to capture 6% of the global smart speaker market.

Apple has captured 6% of the global speaker market, according to a report from Strategy Analytics. The report revealed that Apple shipped 600,000 HomePods in the first quarter of 2018.

The number is very less when compared with Amazon which shipped 4 million Echo speakers during the same time period. This gives Amazon a 43% stake in the smart speaker market followed by Google which sold 2.4 million smart speakers in the same period, with 26.5% market share.

Apple’s HomePod is not doing well in the market. According to reports, Apple has halved their orders for their HomePods. Currently, Apple’s HomePod is priced $350 higher than other smart speakers in the market. The company could be working to create a low-cost model to spur sales. Analysts are pessimistic about HomePod’s success and have stated that Apple may sell only 2 million units in 2018.
